This is a but in the 3.0 SDK for an animated presentModalViewController in debug mode. The view controller will actually not appear animated, and it will only work in release mode. I haven't seen this bug reported on the web, but I have been scratching my head over this for a while.
Hopefully, someone has brought this to the attention of Apple for the 3.1 SDK.
