Knock off apps

Within days of submitting an app, someone has already posted a knockoff app. There seems to be no limit to the number of developers who will copy the functionality of an app and submit it. I can see why patents are such a crucial legal framework to protect copycats. In software anyone can steal your idea and make it their own.
